
The Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Wednesday, promised to give out two brand new iPad3 to outstanding students in Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.
He made the promise during a lecture he delivered on “Journalism and Sports Development in Nigeria” at the department.
The gadgets would be given to two Year Three students who emerge overall best in two core Print Journalism courses, Newswriting and Feature Writing.
Before making the well-received announcement, the minister made an allusion to a similar gesture a research organisation made to several lecturers of the department.
The immediate past head of the department, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye had said in an introductory remark that a research organisation has donated iPads to lecturers in the department to help facilitate multimedia research.
The minister promised at the end of the event, after being asked by one of the lecturers if it were possible, that the award would be annual.
The chairman of department’s Alumni Association, Barrister Tunde Fadahunsi, presented the sports minister a plaque and a medal of honour for his role in national development.
The department also, in appreciation of Mr Abdullahi’s kind gesture, presented him the latest edition of Masscope Magazine, a training publication published annually by students of the department.
After the lecture, the minister paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Rahman Bello, at the varsity’s Senate House.
