David Beckham replaced highly-rated Italian Marco Verratti for the final 18 minutes of Paris St-Germain’s 1-0 win over Montpellier at the weekend. Boss Carlo Ancelotti has kept that change in place from the start for tonight’s game.
“I think Barcelona are the best team ever, but you can never be scared of nights like this,” said David Beckham a confident Becks ahead of the game.
Former Manchester United and England striker Michael Owen said it is “Great that Beckham starts for PSG tonight!”
Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi come in to add some South American flair, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is free for selection after his suspension for a red card in the first leg of the previous round against Valencia was reduced to one game.
Barcelona ring the changes from the team that drew 2-2 with Celta Vigo in La Liga at the weekend, clearing out midfield trio Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Thiago in favour of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Xavi, who has recovered from a hamstring strain.
Up front David Villa comes in alongside Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez, while Javier Mascherano replaces Marc Bartra at centre-back. Jordi Alba returns but there is no room for Eric Abidal, on his way back from a liver transplant, in the match-day squad.
