Owerri market demolition: Sister of slain Imo boy “compensated” with huge scholarship

I don’t know for sure what the government is doing to bring the killer (likely a policeman or soldier) of Somtochukwu Ibeanusi to justice.

But if the words of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume are anything to go by, the late boy’s elder sister will be “compensated” with a huge scholarship.

Senator: “I will take care of you”. Girl: “Can you bring my brother back?” Photo credit: Edafe Oghenebrume.

A disturbing image of the girl, with t-shirt stained with her brother’s blood, screaming in agony went viral in the wake of Somtochukwu’s killing. The boy was hit in the head by a “stray bullet” apparently fired by a security agent as traders protested the demolition of a market in Owerri, Imo State.

Governor Rochas Okorocha, in violation of a court order, ordered the market demolised, reports said.

From what I gathered, Senator Araraume promised to lease 1,000 new shops for traders affected by the sad incident.

He also promised to, through his Destiny Foundation, sponsor the bereaved girl to university.

He was also reported to have said the government would ensure justice for Somtochukwu. He’s probably on his own on that one.
